Delayed Development: What to do?

Children develop at their own pace and you should not be alarmed if your child does not learn how to talk or walk like the child of someone you know. I have three children and they all had different ages for teething, sitting, standing, walking talking, potty training, so do not be alarmed, but talk to a pediatrician and make sure that there are no medical conditions. If your pediatrician tells you that your child is just a bit slower than the average but he is in good health, relax! Your baby will learn when he or she is ready.

If you are still concerned, seek advice from a classical homeopath that has experience with constitutional prescribing and this will help your child greatly.

What is Constitutional Homeopathy?
Every child is born with particular mental and emotional features in addition to a physical constitution. The homeopathic practitioner can take the case of the child to determine his constitutional remedy which can be administered to strengthen the baby and help him/her grow healthy.

The purpose of homeopathy is the restoration of the body to its healthy balance, which is considered its natural state. Classical homeopathic therapy refers to the treatment of a person as a whole, including past and present symptoms, thus focusing on recurrent patterns present in the medical history. In homeopathy the emphasis is placed upon the constitution of the individual, including the underlying mental issues and physical symptoms. Remedy selection is based upon the most distinct characteristics of the person addressing not only the chief complaint but also the overall picture or constitution. The result will be enhanced overall health.

Homeopathic Remedies for Delayed Development

Here is a brief list of the mostly used homeopathic remedies to help a child develop:

Baryta carbonica
This remedy is usually prescribed in cases of mental deficiency and emotional immaturity (childish behavior). There is also slow physical grow and need for reassurance because they feel they are slower than their friends.
Thry can be passive, shy with extreme difficulty making decisions.
This remedy helps in cases of slow growth like dwarfism with chronic inflammation of swollen tonsils. Hard swelling of the cervical glands is common with difficulty swallowing liquids or saliva. These children are mouth breathers. They suffer from bed wetting or regression of potty training when they feel insecure. There is atrophy or smallness of genitalia.

Calcarea carbonica
This is one of the most commonly prescribed remedy for infant and children. It is very useful when there are metabolic problems, difficulty assimilating nutrients (especially calcium), slow teething, walking, and talking. These children also suffer from recurrent illnesses and have swollen glands. They tend to be overweight with a big belly (but they can be quite skinny). They tend to have a slow metabolism and so they put on weight easily, they have a poor stamina and like to stay put.
They have cold hands and feet and tend to sweat on the back of the neck at night in bed. They may suffer from skin eruptions and asthma. If they are constipated they seem to be fine with it.Their nails are distorted and beak easily. They tend to smell sour. They are very easy babies to raise, happy and placid with pale completion and lovely expression.

Silica
Silica children appear very delicate, well behaved almost regal. They tend to suffer from recurrent infections, like colds, otitis, pharyngitis. They have thin hair, skin eruption, weak teeth, bones and slow growth. They are worse from cold and have a poor capacity to absorb minerals. They have very sweaty, smelly feet and are worse by wearing shoes that do not allow the feet to breath. In infants, this remedy helps in cases of failure to thrive where the baby cannot tolerate mother's milk, has projectile vomit and looses weight. In newborn, this remedy is also number one for infection or blockage of the tear duct. These children also suffer from constipation with "bashful stool." This remedy seems to help those who show symptoms of slow development, low appetite, defective assimilation of nutrients, bone disorders after vaccination or have a family history of tuberculosis.
